Seis remolcadores para el grupo Fortescue Metals
Pilbara Marine Pty Ltd. (Pilbara Marine), filial del grupo For-
tescue Metals Ltd., ha encargado a Damen Shipyards para
la construcción de seis remolcadores de 32 m de eslora,
que se construirán en el astillero Song Cam, Vietnam. Los
dos primeros se estima que se entregará a finales de
octubre de 2008, y los cuatro restantes a principios
de 2019.
La compañía los destinará al
puerto de Hedland, en la cos-
ta oeste australiana, el mayor
puerto de exportaciones de
carga a granel del mundo. Desde
allí, Fortescue exporta 165-170
Mt de mineral de hierro al año.
El sistema de propulsión Rotor®Tug está
caracterizado por las tres hélices azimutales,
dos en proa y uno en proa. Los seis remolcadores de la clase ART
85-32W, diseñados por Robert Allan Ltd., tendrá cada uno un tiro a
punto fijo de 85 t tanto por proa como por popa y un 65% a mitad
del buque. El sistema Rotor®Tug ofrece beneficios relacionados con
la maniobrabilidad, frenado, motor y redundancia de cabrestantes. La
notación W hace referencia al aumento de la manga de estos diseños,
que le proporcionan una mayor estabilidad durante las operaciones
de escolta.
Dos remolcadores para el grupo Meyers
El grupo Meyers ha encargado dos remolcadores Damen ASD 2913
para operar en las nuevas esclusas del Canal de Panamá. La firma ofi-
cial tuvo lugar en la pasada edición de la Panama Maritime XIII World
Conference, en la que el CEO del grupo Meyer, Michel Mittlmeyer, co-
mentó que estos remolcadores se destinarán a apoyar las labores de
remolque en las nuevas esclusas del Canal de Panamá, cumpliendo
con los requisitos impuestos por la Autoridad del Canal (que tengan al
menos 80 t de tiro a punto fijo).
Estas dos nuevas unidades, el Arcángel San Rafael y Arcángel San
Gabriel, harán que la flota del grupo Meyer alcance las 11 unidades

at Port Hedland on Australia’s
west coast, the world’s largest
bulk export port. From there,
Fortescue exports 165-170 million
tonnes of iron ore per year.
The six Rotor Tugs will be built at Damen’s
Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam. The first two
are scheduled for delivery ex-yard by the end of October 2018,
with the remaining four due in early 2019.
The six tugs are of the ART 85-32W class, designed by Robert Allan Ltd.
Their Rotor®Tug propulsion system features three azimuth thrusters; two
forward and one aft. Together these deliver the full 85 tonnes of bollard
pull over both the bow and the stern, and 65% from amidships. The
Rotor®Tug system delivers additional benefits regarding manoeuvrability,
braking, and engine and winch redundancy. The W notation refers to the
increased beam of these designs, providing additional stability during
escorting operations conducted regularly at Port Hedland.
In May 2016 Pilbara Marine was awarded a second towage license by
Pilbara Ports Authority for the port of Port Hedland and the new ART 85-
32W rotor tugs will enable it to offer long-term, sustainable towage services.
