From Bio-LNG to Infrastructure Efficiency: Practical Strategies for a Low-Carbon Industry

The global LNG community is going to discuss practical steps toward decarbonisation at LNGCON 2026 on 9-10 March in Barcelona, Spain. The agenda outlines how the coordination of innovation, financing and policy frameworks drives tangible improvements in efficiency and sustainability across the industry.

Reducing the carbon footprint remains one of the main challenges driving progress in the global energy transition. Within this process, LNG plays a strategic role: it replaces higher-emission fuels, supports the integration of renewables and enables cleaner mobility and industrial operations. By combining flexibility with technological progress, LNG becomes a cornerstone in the path toward net-zero emissions.

At the same time, LNG introduces a new balance between energy security and transition goals. It ensures steady supply while allowing markets to adjust gradually, helping economies move toward sustainability without disruption.

This balance sets the stage for LNGCON 2026, where experts demonstrate the industry’s ability to translate decarbonisation targets into practical outcomes. Justin Rispoli, Director, Global Projects at Aspen Aerogels Inc, presents a full-train value study on next-generation insulation systems that lower energy losses, extend asset life and cut emissions across operations. By improving thermal efficiency and reducing Boil-off Gas, these solutions enable measurable carbon savings and strengthen process reliability, proving that impactful progress often begins with the smallest material choices.

Another major focus is the development of cleaner fuels and renewable gases. Alexandros Lagakos, Managing Director SEE at Molgas Energy Group, demonstrates the growing impact of bio-LNG as a scalable solution for low-emission mobility and industrial decarbonisation. Reflecting the company’s pragmatic approach to the European energy transition, his presentation addresses the prospects, opportunities and challenges that bio-LNG faces in securing its place across key customer segments. Building on Molgas’s initiatives in establishing bio-LNG distribution networks across Southern Europe, his session focuses on the role of renewable gases in driving cross-sector integration and advancing the energy transition in transport and industry.

Attention also shifts to system-level transformation and infrastructure. RosaNieto, Infrastructure General Manager at Enagás, shows how Spanish LNG facilities strengthen Europe’s energy security while enabling a lower-carbon supply chain.

As Host Sponsor of LNGCON 2026, Enagás brings over 50 years of experience in operating and developing energy infrastructure across Europe, including initiatives that integrate bio-LNG and renewable gases into the transport sector. These projects, implemented at terminals such as Barcelona, Huelva and Cartagena, illustrate how infrastructure can evolve to support both supply security and the energy transition.

The transition to low-carbon energy remains at the centre of industry dialogue, with a growing focus on alternative fuels and their practical integration across sectors. Simos Efthymiadis, Operations Director at ELINOIL S.A., and Luca Mancuso, Global Technical Director at Wood, discuss the role of green fuels in reshaping transport and industrial operations, opening new pathways for decarbonisation.

Through these and other sessions, LNGCON 2026 highlights the industry’s collaborative mindset. It brings together diverse expertise to address shared operational challenges, transform ideas into joint initiatives and set the tone for the next stage of LNG market development.
